This is an interesting season in my life. It’s a season of accomplishment and uncertainty. It’s full of feelings of excitement and stress. I feel like I’m constantly looking toward the future, instead of focusing on what’s happening right now.
Last month I graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Technical Photography. I probably won’t go to grad school, so graduating from college is a pretty big deal! I’ve been going to school for the last 16 years of my life and now suddenly there’s no more homework, no more tests, no more late nights at the library. Woo! I’m thankful to have a clear direction of where I want my life and career to go and to have some concrete answers of exactly where it’s going.
On October 19, 2104 (less than 5 months!!) I’ll become Mrs. Bobby Willix. :) This is by far the most exciting thing happening to me in the near future! Yet a lot of getting to that date requires planning that is stressful and I get caught up in the details instead of the bigger picture. I want our marriage and life planning to be more important than our wedding planning and it’s easy to lose sight of that.
I’m also working two of my dream jobs: one, as a second shooter for Nancy Ray Photography, who I have looked up to for years, and two, as a small business owner of my very own wedding photography business! As I jump into my own business, it seems full of uncertainty. Will it succeed? How can I tell more people about my business? Is my brand strong? I feel like I want to change my website layout every 5 minutes. I go in circles trying to be productive but instead getting nowhere. That’s why I like this quote, “Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.” I have a hard time looking at extremely successful wedding photographers and remembering that they didn’t start out with their images looking like they do right now and a client base as strong as it is. This is my beginning, and I’ve got to work extremely hard like they did to make it to my middle!
And with that here are my monthly goals. I’ve come up with these based on my life right now. How I can improve my day to day productivity and how I can plan for my future as a wife and business owner.
