5k training // C25K / by Ally Willix

On my overall goals list for the year has been to run a 5k.  I am not in any way in shape or athletic and I've wanted to change that by accomplishing something small in the running world to really push me to be healthy.  I've been writing in my monthly goals basically every month this year that I am going to exercise 3 times a week.  And basically every month that never happens.  This month I'm excited to tell you that that has changed!

My fiancé lives for fitness and became an Iron Man a little over a year ago.  He's always encouraging me to be more active and healthier because he wants me to live for a long time. :)  I'm always saying that I want to be healthier but I was never proving that with my actions.  Finally he got to me when he said, "You always get so upset when you don't meet your blogging goals but you never care when you don't meet your fitness goals." I care a lot about my business but I wasn't caring about my health.  I got tired of not caring!

Insert this app that I'm in love with right now: C25K. It's FREE so there's no reason not to download it! C25K stands for couch to 5k.  It's perfect for people like me who are literally going from sitting in front of a computer all day to getting in shape to run a 5K. 

It's set up for you to work out 3 times a week, 30 minutes each time.  You alternate from jogging to brisk walking throughout the workout so you're not going straight from the couch to running two miles.  This prevents injury and for me personally, it makes me more driven when I'm getting a little "break" at the end of my jog.  Eventually you'll be running more than you're walking and then running up to 2.5 miles straight but the program stretches out over 8 weeks so you have plenty of time to get there.

I'll end with this last piece of motivation and wisdom I gained from listening to a talk by Nancy Ray on the Influence Network. She was speaking on boundaries in different areas of your life, one of them being health.  She said that the devil wants us to be tired and sick, yet God's way is for us to be healthy and strong.  I'm tired of not taking care of my body and just throwing myself a pity party because I'm not in shape.  I'm making a change and so far it's been awesome :)
