Wedding Cake & Pie Bar Inspiration / by Ally Willix

I'm excited to start blogging about the journey to "I do"! I'll be posting about some of our inspiration, vendors, and personal thoughts about the process of getting from the proposal to becoming Mr. and Mrs. Willix. Today I'll start with something that everyone loves: CAKE!

Early on Bobby and I decided to have a pie bar at our wedding. It was a no brainer!  We love pie, we have many close relatives and friends that make delicious home made pies, and this seemed like a perfect detail to add to give our classically themed wedding a little more of a Southern twist. By having friends and family make our pies and desserts we'll be saving money on our cake, but more importantly, we'll be involving the people closest to us in a very important detail of our wedding day.

After deciding to do a pie bar, I remembered the beautiful editorial shoot in Southern Weddings Magazine V6 that displayed a lovely pie spread. This editorial happens to have a very similar color scheme to our wedding as well! Here are a few pictures of their pie decorations:

For our cake, we want a very simple design with textured buttercream icing.  Just something for us to cut and maybe smear a little in each other's faces. ;) Here are some photos of my favorite cakes:

I really love small two tier cakes like in the last image and I think we'll be going with something similar on our big day. We're still finding a local vendor to do our cake and will be excited to share with you our final decision once we get married in just four months!

Stay tuned, I'll be writing about why I believe it's important to do an engagement session soon!
